Welcome to the Smalley hive—where every student is celebrated, supported, and inspired to succeed! At Smalley Elementary, student safety and well-being are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school create a foundation for lifelong learning. The 4 Bees in Action

At Smalley, our 4 Bees—Bee Kind, Bee Respectful, Bee Responsible, and Bee Proud—are more than just words on a wall. They guide our daily actions and shape our school culture. As a restorative school, we focus on building relationships, supporting each other through challenges, and helping every student grow into their best self, one step at a time. Our Bees also give back—whether it’s through Crafty Bees for the Cause, donation drives, or everyday acts of kindness. These experiences help students develop empathy, responsibility, and pride in making a positive impact in their community.

Buzzing Beyond the Bell

Smalley’s Elevate program gives students the opportunity to keep learning and growing long after the school day ends. Through a mix of academic support and exciting enrichment opportunities, students explore new interests, build their skills, and connect with peers—all in a safe, engaging environment supported by caring adults.

Culture and Community

Our multicultural events are a joyful reflection of the rich diversity that makes Smalley so special. From vibrant parades to our annual Multicultural Festival and student performances, we honor and uplift the many cultures and traditions represented in our school community—bringing families together and teaching students to appreciate the world around them. We also host monthly family events and partner with local organizations to create meaningful, inclusive experiences that strengthen our hive. With Buzzy Bee leading the way, we celebrate the power of belonging and the joy of learning together.

The Smalley Beehive

The Smalley Beehive offers students a unique, hands-on learning experience right inside their school. Through a partnership with New Britain ROOTS and the Huneebee Project, the observational hive allows students to explore the world of pollinators, honeymaking, and beekeeping while safely observing the bees at work. The hive is part of a broader initiative to foster environmental awareness and sustainability, supported by an adjacent pollinator garden installed with help from the Rotary Club of New Britain. Together, these resources help students gain a deeper appreciation for nature and the essential role bees play in our ecosystem.
